What Happened to the News Media in America? Part 1 – The Golden Age of News – Defenders of Truth

There was a time between the Civil War and the dawn of the twentieth century when the American news media became so corrupted and so viciously biased that character assassination, fake news, lies, scandalous rumors, bias, racism, and invasions of privacy were the new norm.

In time the few honest news organizations and reporters decided such “Yellow” journalism tactics had to end in order to protect the integrity of the entire news industry that claimed Constitutional protection under the Bill of Rights.

For those of you ignorant of history and blinded by political correctness, the term “Yellow” at the time was used to denote gutless, unethical, immoral and outright lies promulgated by certain publishers and reporters.

The general public was sick of the nonsense and the vast majority no longer believed the news media or press.  To the public, the media had lost all signs of objectivity, were beholden to their advertisers, and intent on destroying opposing views or competition.

The newspaper business started in the 1800’s with papers being affiliated with political parties.  In time the editorial was introduced to allow papers to post articles showing the other party opinion on issues, a technique adopted more to expand the business than to result in fair coverage.  Horace Greeley, founder of the New York Tribune in 1841, is credited with inventing the idea of segregating news reports from opinion writing, by giving opinion its own page.

No national media organizations existed at the time but eventually a group that today is known as the Society of Professional Journalists, founded in 1909, first adopted a Code of Ethics in 1926 covering the print media only.

Although the Code was not enforceable except by voluntary means and had no basis under the law, it was still embraced by all major members of the news media, including radio and television networks and affiliates after the 1973 rewrite.

Three major technological advances would eventually revolutionize the news media industry with the commercialization of the radio in the 1920’s, telephone in the 1930’s, (just 32% of American households had a phone by 1937), and television in the 1950’s (in 1950 just 10% of homes had black and white television, by 1964 a staggering 94% of all homes had television).

Reporting, as a result of the Code of Ethics, took a sharp turn to become popular with the general public.  This tremendous growth in public exposure by television heralded in the Golden Age of reporting, the 1960’s and ‘70’s.

Suddenly television news anchors were among the most trusted people in America, like Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley who drew millions of faithful followers for their nightly news broadcasts.

Announcing death of JFK
Cronkite’s integrity was so beyond reproach he reached 57 million viewers for the Apollo landing on the Moon in 1969.  At the time there were 125 million viewers in a population of 202 million Americans meaning nearly 50% of all viewers were tuned to the CBS News with Cronkite.  In terms of average network followers, the 1969 average was about 31 million, with Cronkite pulling 11 million versus 9 million in each of the other two networks.

The population has tripled since the 1969 Moon landing but what happened to network news watchers?  As noted, 125 million people watched the Moon landing on all three networks, with Cronkite pulling 57 million.  Today, with three times as many people, we still only have about 119.6 million network viewers.

From the 31 million average network news viewers in 1969, it rose to 48 million viewers in 1985, then began a rapid descent.  By 1998 there were 30.4 million network news watchers, but today the number has dropped to about 21 million total watchers.

As for the popularity of anchors, Walter Cronkite was consistently voted the most trusted anchor on television and in 1972, he was named the most trusted man in America in all walks of life.  Today the most trusted network news anchors are only known by 21% of the TV audience.

CNN Bad Boys not content trashing Trump - they decide to Assassinate the entire Trump Administration

.

As CNN continues to flounder far, far behind Fox News in viewership, the network seems to be facing a reality check knowing that Trump helped them to the highest ratings in years in 2016,  but with Trump now settled in office, CNN no longer has access to the Golden Goose of TV ratings.

Trump has already demonstrated his extreme disdain of CNN by refusing to take a question from a CNN reporter at his only news conference since getting elected.  Fear not, while throwing bad taste and sheer idiocy to the wind, the CNN producers decided if they could not stop Trump from being elected, and they could not stop Trump from being certified as winner, they might as well kill him off.

So the following program was aired on the eve of the Trump inaugural in one of the worst examples of journalistic lack of ethics and integrity, and poorest taste on behalf of a radicalized cable television network, in television history.

If CNN ran the same program on the eve of the Obama inaugural in 2009, the entire network would have been in jail for civil rights violations, bias, and perpetrating HATE crimes, before being crucified in the court of public opinion by the progressive radicals.

In today's age of ethical violations and lack of journalistic standards, no other member of the Establishment Media even bothered to note the ill-timed effort for last ditch ratings by a quite desperate cable news network.

CNN Wonders About Trump, Pence Assassination Leaving Obama Administration in Charge

BY RICK MORAN JANUARY 19, 2017

Bizarre, incredible, irresponsible, shocking -- you could run out of adjectives describing this CNN segment before you exhausted your outrage.

Apparently, the network thought that, in the interest of informing the public, they should posit a scenario where Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Speaker Paul Ryan, and President Pro Tempore of the Senate Orin Hatch, would all be assassinated before 12 noon on inauguration day.
Since no Trump cabinet members have been confirmed, the presidency would go to the highest ranking Obama administration cabinet member left alive.
Isn't that fascinating?

“On the day of the inauguration, as a precaution, a Cabinet secretary called the designated presidential successor will not attend the inauguration, ready to step in if something happens,” Todd said. “But, it won’t be a Trump Cabinet secretary, since none of them have been confirmed yet. It will be an Obama appointee.”

He said there was “no word from the White House on who that will be.”

Todd then asked an expert if the line of succession switches to the new presidency at noon.
The former director of the Continuity of Government Commission, John Fortier, explained that there are two lines of succession, one that is already in place and one that will not be in place until the inauguration is over.

” … And one which really won’t be in place until Donald Trump is inaugurated, comes into office, and actually formally nominates and the Senate confirms his people,” Fortier said. “You might actually end up with a president from the prior administration because of a tragedy.”

Since Secretary of State John Kerry will be officially out of office on Friday by noon, and Rex Tillerson, Trump’s nominee to head the State Department, will not be confirmed by then, the person to take over the position could be Obama appointee Tom Shannon, the undersecretary for political affairs.

He is the highest ranking non-political official.

Todd said Former Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman was the designated survivor during one of Bill Clinton’s State of the Union addresses.

“In 1997, during an address by President Clinton to Congress, he [Glickman] was the designated survivor,” Todd said.” He left Washington and went to his daughter’s apartment in Manhattan but he wasn’t alone. The role is a serious one and he says he was accompanied by a doctor, a military officer with access to the nuclear codes, and the Secret Service.”
Question: If Fox News had run a similar segment on January 19, 2009, the reaction of Democrats and the media would have been ....(fill in the blank)?

What was the purpose of this little exercise in Constitutional impossibilities? There's a better chance that President Obama will appear before the press tomorrow morning and apologize for being such a royal screwup as president than there is that the Republican leaders in government will all go down in a hail of bullets or a massive bomb blast before noon..  This is a daydream by desperate, stupid people who have convinced themselves that the end times are upon us because Donald Trump is going to be president of the United States. They have talked themselves into hysteria because, of course, all their friends are hysterical about Trump and this reinforcing feedback loop gives certainty to their delusions.

Are they ever going to snap out of it?  Or are we doomed to being treated to four years of every move Trump makes being a step toward fascism or Armageddon depending on the issue and the day of the week?

Hopefully, the press will lose interest and eventually move on to playing up a more conventional GOP hate. Meanwhile, pop some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy watching the meltdown.

Hillary slings mud with the best of Men - Calls Pro Life "terrorists" as she condones the harvesting and sale of Body Parts by Planned Parenthood!

.

While The New  York Times highlights lies and hides the truth!

Apparently the threat of a progressive Dream Team of Biden and Warren challenging her in the Democratic primary has brought on a change of strategy and a corresponding loss of common sense in Hillary as the newly threatened campaign of Clinton for president has suddenly out trumped the Trump for the day.

Between Hillary calling the Pro Life movement terrorists, and the New York Times reporting how the Hispanic media calls Trump "Hitler," on page one no less, the liberal left seems to have gone, well berserk, over the fact the people are beginning to see the truth about the socialist agenda.

First of all, the many allegations reported in the NYT were shades of yellow journalism.  Trump does not wear a toupee, as stated by Ricardo Sánchez, and he is not "the loudest voice for intolerance, hatred, and division in the United States," as stated by Jorge Ramos.

The fact the Times reported these are two of the most influential people in Hispanic media in America, is a sad commentary on the way the Democratic party has brainwashed the Hispanic people in America.

The Times forget to mention that Ramos's daughter works for the Hillary Clinton campaign, a clear conflict of interest.  His manner was rude, his intent was to embarrass Trump, and his result was to make the entire left media look stupid.

Mr. Ramos, who earlier this month delivered a searing indictment of Donald, called him “the loudest voice of intolerance, hatred and division in the United States,” hardly the words of an objective journalist.

Ramos went on to say, “This is personal, and that’s the big difference between Spanish-language and mainstream media, because he’s talking about our parents, our friends, our kids and our babies,” Mr. Ramos said in a telephone interview.

Why do the Hispanics even associate with the liberal left when they have been used and abused for years?

On July 27, 2015, the liberal PBS Frontline program reported the following:

"Last week, the Mexican government released new data showing that between 2007 and 2014 — a period that accounts for some of the bloodiest years of the nation’s war against the drug cartels — more than 164,000 people were victims of homicide.  Nearly 20,000 died last year alone, a substantial number, but still a decrease from the 27,000 killed at the peak of fighting in 2011."

The vast majority of these people killed along the US and Mexican border got murdered while Obama was president.  What did the Obama administration do to stop the massacres on the border when the drugs were coming to the USA?

Speaking of Obama, who can forget the bold promise to the Hispanic community in 2008, that he would have a comprehensive immigration bill his first year in office?  Thanks to the Hispanic vote he became president.

Here we are, seven years later, and the Democrats are still the champions of the Hispanics, with no immigration bill.

"Despertar los hispanos, los demócratas que damos por sentado."

"Wake up Hispanics, the Democrats take you for granted."

In the interest of equality, there are no guarantees the Republicans can do much better but they are not the ones who made all the empty promises.

My plea is for everyone to seek out the truth, trust no one from media to politicians, and reward results, not empty promises.

As for The New York Times, giving front page coverage to a bunch of political hacks and calling it responsible journalism is a huge joke.  Calling a special interest spokesman like Jorge Ramos "the Walter Cronkite of the Hispanic community" is an insult to American history and journalism.

Walter would have known both Hispanic journalists hated Trump, he would have been insulted the NYT called one of them "Walter Cronkite" without divulging his daughter worked for the Hillary Clinton campaign, and he would have disapproved a reporter making political statements at a news conference instead of asking questions.

In Hillary's case, she has no business accusing those who value life of being the same as Islamic terrorists, while defending those in women's health care who are under investigation for harvesting human embryos and selling organs from fetuses.  It is wrong, a very sick policy position to advocate when you are running for president, and a very direct contribution to inflaming hatred in the country.
