The News Media in America – The new advocates of Tribal Warfare – Destroyers of Truth – Disciples of Dissent – Imposter of Integrity – Abuser of Constitutional Protection!

Once upon a time the news media members of the Fourth Estate, those who claimed to be the defenders of freedom and watchdogs for the public, were signatory to the Code of Ethics for the Society of Professional Journalists.  That Code of Ethics identifies the various standards for the industry which they summarize as follows.

Journalists should:

Take responsibility for the accuracy of their work. Verify information before
releasing it. Use original sources whenever possible.

Remember that neither speed nor format excuses inaccuracy.

Provide context. Take special care not to misrepresent or oversimplify in
promoting, previewing or summarizing a story.

Gather, update and correct information throughout the life of a news story.

Be cautious when making promises, but keep the promises they make.

Identify sources clearly. The public is entitled to as much information as possible
to judge the reliability and motivations of sources.

Consider sources’ motives before promising anonymity. Reserve anonymity for
sources who may face danger, retribution or other harm, and have information
that cannot be obtained elsewhere. Explain why anonymity was granted.

Diligently seek subjects of news coverage to allow them to respond to criticism
or allegations of wrongdoing.

Avoid undercover or other surreptitious methods of gathering information
unless traditional, open methods will not yield information vital to the public.

Be vigilant and courageous about holding those with power accountable.
Give voice to the voiceless.

Support the open and civil exchange of views, even views they find repugnant.

Recognize a special obligation to serve as watchdogs over public affairs and
government. Seek to ensure that the public’s business is conducted in the
open, and that public records are open to all.

Provide access to source material when it is relevant and appropriate.

Boldly tell the story of the diversity and magnitude of the human experience.
Seek sources whose voices we seldom hear.

Avoid stereotyping. Journalists should examine the ways their values and
experiences may shape their reporting.

Label advocacy and commentary.

Never deliberately distort facts or context, including visual information.

Clearly label illustrations and re-enactments.

Never plagiarize. Always attribute.

The Society of Professional Journalists, formerly known as Sigma Delta Chi, is the oldest organization representing journalists in the United States. It was established on April 17, 1909 at DePauw University, and its charter was designed by William Meharry Glenn.

For over one hundred years this society has worked to adopt and maintain a Code of Ethics to guide all journalists in their work and to make certain every effort is made to assure fair and balanced news coverage.

Today, sadly, as is obvious when reviewing the standards inherent in the Society Code, a vast number of principles of good journalism are being violated by the news media.  It seems the day of objectivity, fair and balanced coverage, even measures to assure truth in reporting, have been cast aside by our news organizations.

From the corporate boardrooms of the news media to the college classrooms teaching our next generation of journalists there is a wholesale disregard for our Constitutional protection of the news media.  You see, no Constitutional guarantee comes without reciprocal action to accept responsibility for adhering to the standards being protected.

In truth, our Bill of Rights is really a Bill of Rights and Responsibilities in which the federal government provides protection and those protected must assume responsibility to adhere to standards and principles consistent with our way of life.  That responsibility to maintain standards has been tossed on the trash heap of forgotten promises to the people.

News reporting used to be a meticulous search for truth but today it is no more than a stampede for ratings and readers using a profit driven bias and a desire to exploit the public while serving the stockholders.  They are hypocrites through and through.

Once upon a time our news anchors represented the best in American values.  But all that died when the Walter Cronkite’s of the world passed the baton to the New World Order of journalists.

Bias is the new standard and truth is no longer a priority in reporting.  The media and the profit mongers controlling them decided ratings were dependent upon controversy, generating hatred, undermining truth and exploiting a combined campaign by multiple news sources.  The members of the far left (extreme liberals) were united against a very few defenders of the president, Fox News most notably.  Both sides were guilty of many questionable news practices to hype their cause.

One thing they really underestimated was that the public would immediately see through the falsehoods bombarding the general public through the news media.  It is the public who are the true watchdogs of the public interest for they are the only defenders of the public interest.  They also long ago recognized the impending collapse of institutions like the news media, federal government, political parties and others who have outlived their usefulness.

People no longer trust the media because the media has abandoned the search for truth.  There can be no more telling sign than the cancellation of newspaper and magazine subscriptions, the epic collapse in television ratings, and the cord cutting of the public from the broadcast and cable television networks.

Back in that time, Walter Cronkite consistently drew 27-29 million viewers every night and on occasion soared to over 50 million for special events.  He was the most trusted man in America.  Today there are far more media outlets and there were 205 million people in the US back then compared to 330 million today.  Yet, if you total the audience for all the news media today, broadcast and cable, it falls short of Walter alone.

In the not too distant past news directors decided what to report.  Today, algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) decide what to publish and how to maximize the bias.  The news media of today works to create the news, not just report it.  It wants to convince people what to think, not to present both sides of issues and let the people make up their own minds.

The news media and social media owners became collaborators and made a calculated decision to tell people what to think, subtly of course, in the dominant issue of the day, President Donald Trump, the consummate outsider.

Why?  Because he threatened those news reporters who used government insiders to routinely get leaked confidential, proprietary and even classified information, the lifeblood of an unscrupulous media.

The Trump threat must end so they first tried to stop Trump from getting elected which failed miserably.  Then they tried to force him to resign from the presidency through scandalous events from Trump’s past which also failed miserably.  Finally, they united to get him impeached which has failed thus far.

By using a variety of highly questionable news services and mysterious anonymous sources to generate news stories, thus creating an avalanche of spurious and incendiary rumors, half-truths and fake news to stop him from getting re-elected, such was their hatred and fear of the renegade president.

That was only the beginning.  Once credible news outlets like the New York Times, Washington Post, NBC and ABC along with most cable affiliates and channels such as CNN, MSNBC, CBSN and network streaming services were part of the movement to impeach or disenfranchise the duly elected president of the people.

For those of you not familiar with the news business, there are many ways to slant coverage in a negative light like misleading headlines leading into the story or using dated or provocative videos with bad people such as Trump with Epstein though the video is over 20 years old.

They consistently load all panels of experts with Obama/Clinton lovers and Trump haters, Republicans who are outcasts from their own party, or officials fired from the Trump era.  Often times CNN and MSNBC seem more like the PR arm of the Democratic National Committee than news outlets and it seems as if a requirement to get on the air is to have worked for Obama, be fired by Trump, or pledge allegiance to the destruction of Trump.

Of course, the public knows better as noted from the collapse in ratings and readers so in the end, should Trump survive and get re-elected, the Swamp may yet get drained.  This should be a lesson to all aspiring journalists, if you want to report the news you must have solid principles and take responsibility for your actions in serving the public trust.  Seek the truth.

The Coltons Point Times predicts Emmanuel Macron will be the next President of France

.

The Coltons Point Times predicts Emmanuel Macron will be the next President of France when the dust settles from this Sunday's French election.

The French election this Sunday is a rare opportunity to see what happens in France when the two candidates who are not from the two dominant political parties square off.  It will be Emmanuel Macron versus Marine Le Pen.

At this late stage, Macron has a lead but remember the American election where Hillary Clinton was ahead of Trump in the polls the closing days, up to a double-digit lead in some polls.

Macron, a banker, is a candidate for his own En Marche party and if elected, will be the youngest French president in history, and also one who has never held elective office.  Le Pen is a candidate of the National Front party, formerly known as a rather radical minor party, and she has injected new enthusiasm and life into it.

With former President Obama's last-minute endorsement of Macron today, the American Democrats hope to tie their wagon to a rising foreign leader's star, but the link is pretty weak considering the Democrats have always been backers of the major party socialist or left leaning parties.  President Trump has stayed out of the race.

Ironically, the candidate Obama endorsed, Macron, would be far more comfortable with Trump than Le Pen, and the traditional French left wing parties should be upset the former American Democratic president did not help them.

What are the main political parties in France that self-destructed in the primary?

UMP - Union for a Popular Movement - (Union pour un Mouvement Populaire)
PS - Socialist Party - (Parti Socialiste)
MoDem - Democratic Movement - (Mouvement démocrate)
PCF - French Communist Party - (Parti Communiste Français)
Verts - The Greens - (Les Verts)
NC - New Centre - (Nouveau Centre)

Just remember that these are the major parties and France has a seemingly endless number of legitimate parties for a multitude of causes.

The following quotes from The London Telegraph provide a rather good assessment of the candidates and race.

"As for the two candidates for president, Emmanuel Macron is a member of the En Marche! party while Marine Le Pen is a member of the National Front.  Needless to say, none of the top French parties can take credit for either candidate which makes this election unique..

One outcome of the French presidential election on Sunday is certain: Europe won't be the same.
The choice between candidates, however, could hardly be more stark.
A victory by far-right candidate Marine Le Pen would shake the foundations of the Western world. President Trump's victory was seen as consequential in Europe, but a Le Pen win would be incomparably more significant, some liberals say. Whereas Trump has frequently changed his mind on issues, Le Pen's agenda has remained virtually unchanged for years. She has vowed to pull France out of NATO's military command, the euro zone and the European Union. Few doubt that she would deliver.

Her centrist opponent, Emmanuel Macron, who is leading in the polls, takes an opposing view: His pro-European agenda is based on a neoliberal economic approach and on a moderate stance on social issues. He would also be the most pro-American French president in a long time.

With Macron as French president, the U.S. will encounter a much stronger, strategic, self-confident, forward-thinking France and therefore Europe,” said Nicholas Dungan, a senior fellow at the D.C.-based Atlantic Council who works in France. “The U.S., whether it understands it or not, needs a strong Europe.”

Americans who live in France say there are several reasons that a Macron victory could benefit the United States. France is a strong NATO ally and has recently conducted airstrikes against the Islamic State alongside the United States and other nations. French forces have also participated in NATO operations in Afghanistan. Le Pen, however, wants to cooperate more closely with Russia instead of the United States."

Democratic Old Guard Still have no Class at Trump Speech to Congress

Disgraceful: Top Dems Ellison and Wasserman Schultz Couldn't Put Politics Aside, Remained Seated When Navy SEAL's Widow Was Honored
Published March 1, 2017

By Matt Vespa, Townhall.com

Congressional Democrats, still sour over Hillary Clinton’s loss to President Donald J. Trump, remained mostly seated and still throughout the president’s first address to Congress. Guy offered his analysis on this, and the consensus is that this was his best speech yet. More importantly, it showed that Trump had become presidential. The tone was softer, though it did not shy away from the promises he made on the campaign trail.
Yet, as Trump discussed support for law and order, law enforcement, and other subjects that usually garner bipartisan gold claps, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) were seen debating with whether to stand or remain seated during some of Trump’s biggest applause lines. Independent Journal Review’s Benny Johnson tweeted that the two were whispering, “Should we stand?”

The most powerful moment came when President Trump introduced the widow of Navy SEAL Ryan Owens, who was killed in action in Yemen. Carryn Owens, breaking down in tears, received the longest ovation of the night—and rightfully so. But Schultz and Ellison remained seated, like cold stones.

CBS News Poll: Viewers Call Trump’s Speech To Congress ‘Presidential’ And ‘Unifying’

March 1, 2017 12:10 PM

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Viewers across the country strongly approved of President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress Tuesday night, with many Democrats joining Republicans in calling it “presidential,” according to a new CBS News poll.

The poll found that 82 percent of total speech watchers said Trump’s address was “presidential” while 71 percent called it “unifying.”
When broken down, the poll found 97 percent of Republicans, 54 percent of Democrats and 88 percent of Independents say Trump came across as “presidential” in his speech.

Half of Democrats did find the speech “divisive” but about one-third of them also said Trump was “specific” and “knowledgeable,” according to the poll.

Eighty-seven percent of Republicans, 19 percent of Democrats and 66 percent of Independents found the president’s tone to be “very positive” while 18 percent of Democrats and 87 percent of Republicans “strongly approved” of the president’s message.
The president also saw double digit gains in approval of his views on terrorism, Obamacare, crime, the economy and immigration, the poll found.
Wednesday morning, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appeared less than impressed with what he called dissonance between the president’s words and actions.

“This is another one of his speeches,” he said. “He talks like a populist but he is governing from the far right.”

But Vice President Mike Pence said the country saw the president’s true colors.
“President Trump is someone who leads by collaboration,” Pence said. “He brings people together and last night he really challenged the Congress to come together to solve these intractable problems that frankly, we’ve ignored for decades.”
Meanwhile, Twitter says some 3 million tweets were sent about Trump’s speech Tuesday night. The numbers make it the most tweeted speech by a president to Congress in the relatively short history of the platform.
The previous mark was 2.6 million tweets.

The top tweeted moment was the Republican’s call to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. That was followed by Trump’s salute to Carryn Owens, the widow of Senior Chief William “Ryan” Owens, who was killed last month in Yemen.

Google says the top trending question users asked during the night was “who wrote Donald Trump’s speech?” People also wanted to know how tall the president is and whether he’s a Democrat or a Republican.
The CBS News poll was conducted immediately after the conclusion of the President’s Address to Congress by re-contacting a scientifically sampled panel of Americans who had first been interviewed in the days leading up to the speech, and had stated that they planned to watch. A total of 857 speech watchers were interviewed. The margin of error for the total sample is 4.2 points.

Voters to Democrats: Cooperate with Trump

Published March 1, 2017

  - The Washington Times - Tuesday, February 28, 2017

The “i word” — impeachment — has already surfaced in the Democratic dialogue as the party rails against PresidentTrump, its noisy message amplified by the mainstream media. In the words of Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, everybody is “fired up.”
Perhaps they are under the impression that the nation will stand back in awe and admiration of their combative tone and vigorous outreach. That may not be the case, however. Many voters are weary of political gridlock and discord.

“Most voters agree that it’s bad for America and bad for the Democratic Party if Democrats continue to flat out oppose everything President Trump does. Even Democrats are conflicted about their party’s scorched earth policy,” says a new Rasmussen Reports poll.
According to the poll, 63 percent of all likely voters say it’s better for the country if Democrats try to work with the president instead, while 29 percent think it’s better for the country if Democrats “oppose the president in every way possible.”

Naturally, 90 percent of voters who support Mr. Trump say the Democrats should be more cooperative. But a surprising 46 percent of the Democrats themselves agree with this, a sentiment that is on the rise. A similar poll conducted shortly after the November election found that 32 percent of Democrats favored cooperation.

Perhaps the party itself could use a little quiet time. The survey also found that 63 percent of all voters say the Democratic Party will be “better off” if they cooperate with the opposition; a surprising 45 percent of Democrats also agree.

I'm a Democrat and It's Time for Our Party to Apologize to America

Published March 1, 2017
By Bryan Dean Wright
Published March 1, 2017  FoxNews.com
Now that President Trump has delivered his State of the Union-style address, my fellow Democrats are settling in for a long fight. Our new DNC Chairman Tom Perez is leading the charge, promising to be a “nightmare” for the president and his fellow Republicans.
The reason is clear: Mr. Perez tastes political blood in the water. Trump’s approval rating is at historic lows, hammered by allegations of Russian collusion, a contentious immigration ban, and emotional Twitter outbursts.
Yet smart Democrats know that our position with the American people is just as weak. We hold the fewest number of state legislatures, governorships, and federal offices than at any point since the 1920s. And it’s a trend that started well before the 2016 election.
In short, America isn’t buying what Democrats are selling.
The reasons for this are numerous, and they include efforts by Republicans to suppress voters in North Carolina and gerrymander Congressional districts in Wisconsin.
But finger pointing at GOP operatives hides a much more painful truth.
Six weeks ago, the U.S. Senate considered an amendment that would have allowed Americans to import cheap prescription drugs from Canada. This common sense solution would have saved families thousands of dollars – and lives. Not surprisingly, 72 percent of voters supported the proposal.
Yet the amendment failed, with 14 Democratic Senators rejecting it.
What could explain their vote? Cynics highlight the fact that many of these officials collect large sums of campaign cash from pharmaceutical giants. Top collectors of drug money include Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), all of whom voted against the bill.
