Health Care in America - Did You Hear About This in the News?

.

Someone forgot to tell us the news we can use

I'm a curious sort so I try to understand the world view on America by following news sources from around the world.  It has always fascinated me how the American, and the television network and cable news stations in particular, seem to filter what we need to know.

So I check out the BBC in the UK and other sources in France, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, Mexico and South America every day.  Many international events are not even reported on American television.  In fact, a lot of American events are not reported on American television.

It makes one wonder.  Why are stories important to the world considered not important to our own television network and cable news shows?  Isn't that what they are supposed to do?

Take a look at the following stories that can be found around the world.  Don't you think it would be important to know about them?  Don't you think they have an impact on America?

America's Legal Drug Addiction

Prescription drug abuse has become a major problem in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 100 people die from drug overdoses everyday in the US; and nearly 3 of 4 drug overdoses are caused by prescription painkillers.

In other words, legally prescribed drug abuse results in 27,375 deaths a year, while illegal drug abuse results in just 9,125 deaths a year.  Think about it.  Three times as many people are killed by doctors as all the illegal drug dealers combined.

Deaths from Hospital Medical Errors Near 200,000 a year in USA

Preventable medical mistakes and infections are responsible for about 200,000 deaths in the U.S. each year, according to an investigation by the Hearst media corporation.

In a separate article by Dr. Gary Null, (archived at government statistics were gathered to present an overall picture of the extent of death-by-the medical-system serving the United States.

Here is a summary of the data supporting Dr. Null’s conclusion that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States resulting in at least 783,136 dead.

The medical system mortalities break down this way: adverse drug reactions: 106,000; medical error: 98,000; bedsores: 115,000; infection: 88,000; malnutrition: 108,000; outpatients: 199,000; unnecessary procedures: 37,136; and surgery-related: 32,000.

As Dr. Null explains, these are conservative estimates that do not attempt to overcome the considerable limitations of self-reporting regarding error and negligence.

Dr. Null's report is at:

Are Medical Mistakes Counted in "Leading Cause of Death Records in USA?

Leading Causes of Death

(Data are for the U.S. and are final 2009 data; For the most recent preliminary data see Deaths: Preliminary Data for 2010 [PDF - 724 KB])

Number of deaths for leading causes of death

·         Heart disease: 599,413

·         Cancer: 567,628

·         Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 137,353

·         Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 128,842

·         Accidents (unintentional injuries): 118,021

·         Alzheimer's disease: 79,003

·         Diabetes: 68,705

·         Influenza and Pneumonia: 53,692

·         Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 48,935

Posted by the US Center for Disease Control

Editors Note:

Do you see a category for any of the Medical Mistakes that cause deaths?  Neither the Hearst investigation nor the study by Dr. Gary Null which indicates there are nearly 800,000 deaths a year from Medical Mistakes are reflected in the CDC report.

Why are we not being told what is going on in America?

When considering these stories and the death totals note that the In Hospital Medical Error deaths (200,000) would rank it as the 3rd highest cause of death in America while the Medical Mistakes deaths (800,000) would make it the number one cause of death in America.

Is there a financial incentive for news media to NOT report the news?  Stay tuned for further updates.

CPT Announces Revolutionary News Service - the CPT TWIT

.

Now that Tweeter has conditioned our minds to summarize all knowledge, information, news and thoughts in the world into about 124 characters the world is now ready for the Coltons Point Times contribution to the evolution of journalism.

Today we introduce to you the CPT Twit - in which we have successfully diminished your need to absorb all those demanding 100+ Tweet characters.  This modern technology driven age needs to minimize to the sub-atomic level the amount of data you should be required to absorb.

Our Twits consist of no more than 0, yes that means ZERO, characters.  Instead we rely solely on your sensory capabilities, far under-utilized in this digital age, to transmit the latest breaking news to you.

What, might you ask, is a Twit?

Don't ask me, ask your online Dictionaries.  Okay, we will.

Race Baiting in America - The Lingering Cottage Industry

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

What a shame that in a nation of laws and equality one can find race baiting as a sport reaching new highs or lows depending on your perspective.

The Zimmerman trial in Florida in which a jury dismissed all charges against the defendant, George Zimmerman, ruling self-defense, has demonstrated once again how some American traditions transcend politics, time and truth.

“I have decided to stick to love...Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Race baiting, that age old practice of proving people are inherently prejudiced even when they are not, is alive and well.

You notice, I trust, that I did not mention discrimination or equal opportunity because while I believe we have made great progress in our history, we are far from a society when there is only one race, mankind.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

When you have cottage industries whose purpose seems to be more oriented toward prolonging race hatred, and inciting repressed fears, than helping society as a whole work to eliminate racism against everyone, you still have a problem.

"Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away, and that in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty."

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Here in America there are two distinct groups who never hesitate to use race baiting for their own purposes.  There are the so called advocates of an issue, those self-appointed mouth pieces for the invisible oppressed and repressed Americans.

These are the parasites who feed off parasites, grasping at any straw in the wind, no matter how remote from the truth it may be, in order to prolong their own interests like foundations, fund raising, consulting fees, kickbacks and the other benefits of the great American machine of capitalism.

"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word."

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Did I forget to mention the chauffeured limousines available to them, private jets on loan, significant tax deductible donations to their favorite charity?  What about the thousands of dollars in honorarium fees for speaking and the seven course gourmet dinner parties to help the super rich learn about the hatred and fear they missed in their finishing schools?

“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”
                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

These people have often taken extremely worthwhile causes and hijacked them for their own purposes.  The pioneers of the American Civil Rights movement, people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave their lives to help wipe out racism and hatred.  Today's so called leaders use racism and fear to turn people against people.  They bring shame to the memory and work of such martyrs.

As for the parasites the parasites feed off of, they are the media, whether mainstream, main street, network, cable, Internet, wire service virtual, blogs or just plain stupid.

"When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every tenement and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old spiritual, "Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last."

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Back in the 1960's when Civil Rights had a cause and purpose, the most radical advocates for and against the civil rights movement were known as hate mongers and even bomb throwers.  But they did throw bullets and bombs.

Today's mouthpieces, whether from the special interests out to protect their special interest or the lawyers who created all the victim's non-profit funds that seem to pay huge salaries to lawyers to watch over the money to the media.

"Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies - or else?  The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation."
                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Ah the media.  The only parasite class to give up all pretense of hiding the truth behind some sanctimonious purpose of serving the higher good.  No more lies about being "objective", "unbiased" or "truthful".

Today the media serves many masters and the truth is not one of them.  First and foremost in the media mind is corporate profits and profits only come from ratings in television and lies on the Internet.

It is in the best interest of the media ratings that all things good fail, all laws are subject to ridicule, any old storm must be transformed into a major natural disaster in the making, and sex sells.

“Let no man pull you so low as to hate him.”

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The more the public is upset the higher the ratings and the more opportunity to exploit hapless victims and their families and the more victims trust funds can be created.

Of course thanks to the media packaging of trials and the public response to jury and court rulings, the on camera reporters are so lame, apparently, that they need all kinds of bogus "experts" beside them to help hype the lies being spun to gain more viewers, higher ratings, and more advertising revenue.

Why have the very institutions whose people helped bring well deserved recognition to Dr. King now employed people and tactics that have sold out the very principles Dr. King stood for in the name of racial equality?

“Now there is a final reason I think that Jesus says, "Love your enemies." It is this: that love has within it a redemptive power. And there is a power there that eventually transforms individuals. Just keep being friendly to that person. Just keep loving them, and they can’t stand it too long. Oh, they react in many ways in the beginning. They react with guilt feelings, and sometimes they’ll hate you a little more at that transition period, but just keep loving them. And by the power of your love they will break down under the load. That’s love, you see. It is redemptive, and this is why Jesus says love. There’s something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies.

                                                Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fear and hatred empower racism and no one advocates fear and hatred more than the parasites who use human capital to make money.  They share the Greed Masters Hall of Infamy in American culture.

Here is a sampling of the martyrs who gave their lives for others.

Note from the Publisher:

.

There are over 960 articles published in the Coltons Point Times that are archived and accessible to you through the years and months displayed in the index.  They represent a pretty fair representation of the way things still are today.

Another index of some of the most popular articles appears just above my publisher photo on the left.  Just click and it gives you choices.

A lot of interesting things are covered and a lot of ideas have been presented in the CPT on our problems and how to fix them.  With so little progress being made toward this by our politicians, however, the articles will be timely for some time to come.

Many articles attempt to clarify the truth in what we are being fed by the media since so much of the media no longer consider truth and objectivity to be viable and these articles are also worth perusing.

However, I am taking my own advice when I said earlier the most important thing we can do between now and the presidential election was to turn off television and stop listening or reading the news until it was over.  I did quit writing articles.

As of today we have seven weeks until the election and thirteen weeks until the End of Time according to the Mayan calendar.  What a contrast?  Seven like the seven sacred days of creation, or the light.  Or thirteen like the superstitious and foreboding number of the dark.

Through it all I will continue to ignore the nonsense and silliness of politicians and their election campaigns.

Instead I am going to tell you about my newest book that is a work in progress in hopes it gives you something new to consider while distracting you from the lies and deception in everyday life which none of us needs.

By the way, don't bother trying to buy it yet because I can't finish it until we survive the End Times in 13 weeks.

What is news?

.

I've spent a lifetime devouring news from every source the world had to offer.  Newspapers, magazines, books, libraries, specialty magazines, radio, television network, television cable, wire services, Internet, world newspapers, cell phones, satellites and the pulpit.

Add to that the unlimited number of social, cultural and educational resources and the list becomes rather enormous.  Most of my life I was a freak with my obsession for news sources and compassion for reading.

One thing is quite clear, everyone has their own opinion of what is news.  That is rule number one in understanding what is news.  The second is people use news for a variety of reasons only one of which is to be informed of current events in the world.

Some people want to project an image of being intellectual.  Maybe they want to impress their parents, teachers, girl friends or whoever.  Maybe they were like me who had a grandfather who gave me Time or Life magazine, gave me an hour to read and absorb it, and then expected me to debate it with him.

Now had I been in high school when I was on the debate team I might have enjoyed it more but this started when I was six or seven and became a Sunday ritual whenever I saw him.  To me I had two choices in life at that early age. Listen to my grandfather tell me Irish stories or debate the world news with him.

As much as I loved and appreciated the Irish stories, my thirst for information was just as intense and at that young age not too many people were going to take a seven year old too seriously when it came to world affairs.  So I loved the intellectual challenges he gave me having no idea I was in danger of becoming a total nerd.

If I asked any of my brothers what they thought of the Cold War they looked at me like I was a freak.  Girls, cars, sports and entertainment all were far more important to them than intellectual pursuits.  I could always count on my grandfather to appreciate what I went through to stay informed.

Of course there is a great deal of problems that arise when you have an endless quest for information, you may actually learn a lot.  I thought I did.  And I also thought it was my universal responsibility to correct my teachers, most often nuns and priests, when they tried to teach my classmates inaccurate information.

Let's just say I was a perpetual candidate for an exorcism to drive the demons out of me who made me challenge authority.  It was never my intent to challenge authority but to help it be better.  Somehow their humiliation was more important to them than the truth.

At any rate, after all I've seen I think "news" should be information that helps the readers understand life, find their purpose in life, discover the truth for themselves in life, and helps lead to a better life for all.  Why else would we be here?

The stories I write are intended to serve that purpose.  It is up to you to find the real meaning of what I offer.  I must say, truth is most often not obvious but buried within a code of sorts.  Real insights come from the degree of effort given by the reader to be open to what is not obvious.

Finding people that want to make a difference in the world, that want to do what is best for all people, animals, the environment and Mother Earth, is a difficult process.  Finding people open to new truth, new definitions, no boundaries and no prejudice is the most difficult of all.

They are out there, scattered and hidden amongst us, and they need to be inspired, encouraged and heard.  So many people listen, so few people hear.

My goal in reporting my version of the "news" is to write stories to stimulate you to consider the impossible, appreciate the fantastic, never limit the potential and to seek the good for all creatures and inhabitants, whether man, animal, fish, vegetable or mineral, of this magnificent planet and gift from God(s).

Mostly it is to awaken within you your potential and to find or reassure your faith in a higher purpose we all must learn to serve.
